A MESSAGE FROM THE ACTING COMMISSIONER
Increased rains make certain areas around the home a haven for mosquito breeding, putting you and your family at risk for Dengue Fever, symptoms of which mirror the flu and include body ache, nausea, vomiting and in rare cases can lead to death. There is no cure for Dengue and people who feel ill should seek immediate medical care.

Remember to scour your yard after it rains because anything that holds water can produce mosquitoes. The Environmental Health Division routinely fogs after heavy rains to minimize the increase in mosquito population, but studies show that fogging alone does not stop the risk. Dengue Fever is carried by the Aedes Aeqypti mosquito which often lay their eggs in stagnant water and can be found inside the home in dark areas such as closets.

Healthcare providers are reminded that Dengue Fever is reportable by law, therefore ALL suspected cases MUST be reported to the Health Department so that we can best serve the community. Remember, dengue prevention is everyone’s responsibility!
